KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Breaking news arrived from the city’s Development and Management division on the morning of Wednesday, May 4, as Speedy Cash elected not to pursue rebuilding at the 2600 Independence Boulevard site following last October’s tragic fire, which killed Kansas City, Missouri Firefighters Larry Leggio and John Mesh.

According to an email received by Peter Hoffman, an attorney with Legal Aid of Western Missouri who represents the Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association in the case, Speedy Cash has elected to withdraw their request to rebuild at the location, paving the way for the building’s demolition.

Bobbi Baker-Hughes, President of the Northeast Chamber and Manager of the Independence Avenue CID, commented on the community victory.

“This is what we fight for,” she said. “Thank goodness the eyesore and the memory of a horrible tragedy will soon be erased from the boulevard.”
