“Transformation does not occur instantaneously,” reads the transformation plan in the Kansas City Missouri School District’s Executive Summary. “Well aware of the time, dedication and sense of fidelity that will be required to properly revolutionize the Kansas City Public Schools and create change that is sustainable, the district is focusing on five key initiatives.”

Phase II of the Transformation plan will launch tomorrow, Thursday, June 30, in attempts to graduate students that are ready for college and career.

This plan will include ideas from the community strategic planning process in 2010 with five key areas of action:

An expansion of the standards-based system of learning, now titled Student-Centered Learning; preparing college, career, and workforce-ready graduates; building staff leadership and teacher capacity; transforming the environment through education and environmental responsibility; and improving communication among staff and with the community.

To hear more about this, Superintendent Dr. John Covington will introduce this plan at his State of the School Address, Thursday, June 30, at 7 p.m. at Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, 4747 Flora, Kansas City, Mo.
