Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders announced May 6 that Jean Peters-Baker is the new Jackson County prosecutor.
Presiding Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit Charles E. Atwell swore in Peters-Baker during the 1:30 p.m. press conference at the Jackson County Courthouse.
Peters-Baker has ties to Historic Northeast and served as a tutor for Northeast Middle School in 1999.
“Peter’s-Baker will be a strong supporter of anti-crime efforts in Historic Northeast,” District 40 State Rep. John Rizzo said.
For 14 years, Peters-Baker has worked in the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. During her time in the prosecutor’s office, she worked as a trial team leader, chief warrant officer and assistant prosecuting attorney. Last year, she was elected to the Missouri State House of Representatives, serving the 39th District.
Peters-Baker will serve as county prosecutor through Dec. 31, 2012, filling the vacancy left by James F. Kanatzer, who was recently sworn in as a judge on the 16th Judicial Circuit bench.
“I am confident we have appointed the best candidate available to one of the premier legal positions in the Midwest,” Sanders said of Peters-Baker. “Jean brings a great deal of experience, professionalism and passion to this office.
“Her character, commitment and work ethic will serve the citizens of Jackson County well.”
