Wednesday evening just before 9 p.m., Kansas City, MO Police officers (KCPD) were called to the area of Independence Boulevard and Garfield Avenue on an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) call. The call area was updated to Independence and Olive.
Upon arrival, officers located a victim in the roadway just east of Olive suffering from apparent trauma. The male victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
On Thursday afternoon, the victim was identified as 30-year-old Abdullahi Yussuf, a resident of Pendleton Heights.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel responded to the scene.
KCPD is working with Partners for Peace in all its homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
This is the fifth homicide in Kansas City this week and the second in Northeast during that same time period. Earlier this week, a woman was found dead, the victim of an apparent trauma, near 7th and Spruce in the Lykins neighborhood.
