Officers were called to a home in the 400 block of North Wheeling at approximately 1:30 a.m. Thursday on a sound of shots fired call. Upon arrival, officers found the back door of the residence open and the body of a deceased adult male inside the residence. Detectives are investigating the case as a homicide.

The owner of the property indicated that the house is rented to her sister and she had no knowledge of anyone else living there. A man who lives in the 300 block of North Wheeling noted the uptick in activity recently, referring to last week’s Operation 100 call that originated with a man waving a gun outside his residence.

“This is getting silly,” the man said while out walking his dog. “About time for me to go back to Des Moines.”

Police have not released the name of the deceased. Anyone with any information regarding the case is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
