Christmas came early to Kansas City’s Fifth Council District this year in the form of the embattled Michael Brooks resignation. This feisty newsdog thinks Brooks’ exodus was far too late. Like 15,000 hours too late.
One question this newspooch has for city fathers, are the taxpayers of this fair city getting any of their money back from his indiscretions? Is City Manager Troy Schulte going to pursue restitution for the $15,000 Brooks stole, er, appropriated from city coffers to bring boxing legend and alleged spouse abuser Floyd Mayweather Jr. to town to lecture youth on domestic violence? What about the taxpayer funded junket to Austin, Texas, recently to allegedly attend the National League of Cities conference? Brooks, as you may recall, didn’t stay with the rest of the city folks, he instead chose a $400 a night palace for himself away from the conference hotel.
Now, taxpayers will be on the hook for his legal expenses, for his alleged abuse of his council aide Tonia Titus. I can’t breathe. This opinionated news-writing doggie is proud to be a part of the “media circus” leading to his resignation. Good riddance we say. One last question before you go, however Pastor, when can the taxpayers of this fair city expect to be reimbursed?
