KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Twenty-five year old Candance West of Kansas City, Kansas was charged on Wednesday, August 17 in connection to an armed robbery that occurred on August 16 near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Norton Avenue.
West faces charged of Robbery in the 1st Degree, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon after allegedly robbing a 55-year-old man waiting at a bus stop with a 10 inch knife.
According to the Probable Cause Statement, the victim called police to the intersection of Independence and Norton, where he told the responding officers that he’d been robbed by a black female with red hair, a lime green shirt, and shorts. He also told officers that the suspect wielded a 10″ knife during the robbery.
In conducting an area canvass, officers found Candance West matching the suspect’s description in a nearby alley behind Independence Avenue. A search of West’s purse uncovered a beige rock-like substance, which was later determined to be cocaine. Officers also recovered a large gray knife.
After waiving her Miranda rights, West denied committing the robbery, although she admitted to knowingly possessing a controlled substance and carrying a concealed knife in her purse.
