KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Kansas City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. R. Stephen Green is super enough to be recognized for all his hard work.

The Missouri Association of School Administrators has named Superintendent Green it’s 2015 Pearce Award winner. A committee of his peers selected Green. Eight school district superintendents in Missouri were nominated for the award. Green received his award during a banquet ceremony Wednesday, March 25, in Lake of the Ozarks.
The KCPS will host its own 2015 Pearce Award celebration and reception for Green from 4 — 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Central Middle School, 3611 E. Linwood Blvd. Staff, students and community partners are all invited. The Pearce Award includes a $500 cash award to the recipient and a $500 scholarship for a student in the district of the award winner.

According to a press release from the KCPS, since Green joined the KCPS in 2011, the district has used laser-like focus to increase student achievement, to prepare students for college and career success and to help students become collaborative, creative, and caring critical thinkers and communicators. KCPS has made gains in its Missouri School Improvement Program scores in recent years, and has moved from unaccredited to a provisionally accredited status. Jon Hile, KCPS Board of Directors chair, said it’s gratifying to see Dr. Green’s peers recognize what we already know: That he is an outstanding educator and leader.

“This honor, combined with our improvement in many other areas, is yet more evidence that we are on the rise,” Hile said.

Dr. Green’s impact on the Kansas City community goes well beyond his leadership of KCPS. He is currently chairman of the Oak Ridge Youth Development Corporation, a member of the United Way of Greater Kansas City Board of Directors, and a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He has served on the Kansas City Public Television Board of Directors and the Kauffman Scholar, Inc. Board of Directors.
