Community Blood Center (CBC) is requesting area citizens to donate blood  throughout this week to help support the victims of the devastating tornado that hit the Joplin, Mo., area Sunday, May 22.

CBC has currently shipped 15 units of life-saving blood to Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, the local blood banking organization serving the Joplin area, to support the rescue and relief effort.

Locally, Community Blood Center has learned from many of its hospital partners that victims are being transported to a number of Kansas City-area hospitals for surgeries and that the demand for life-saving blood will increase as the rescue and relief effort continues.

Those interested in donating with Community Blood Center at a mobile blood drive should visit www.savealifenow.org or call 888.647.4040 to book an appointment and learn more about how easy it is to save a life in less than an hour. Additionally, donors can visit one of CBC’s seven Neighborhood Donation Centers located in Kansas City, Topeka, St. Joseph, Gladstone, Blue Springs, Olathe or Overland Park.
