Stick a soccer goal in it. It’s done.
For more than a year, the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department has worked to transform the intersection of 9th and Van Brunt into a community gathering place and soccer complex.
Now, the work is complete and the city will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, June 29.
The athletic fields sit on a 12.4 acre site in Historic Northeast and include a new artificial turf soccer field, two natural turf practice fields, an amphitheater/event plaza, concession building with restrooms, parking lot, walking trail and landscaping.
To celebrate the completion of the 9th and Van Brunt Athletic Fields, a free picnic will be held at the fields from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
In addition, the Mayor’s Night Kicks games will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the 7 p.m. ribbon cutting.
