To promote family farms, Kansas City’s City Market will host Farm Aid Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the City Market.

The goal is to create an awareness in preserving this generational livelihood, which in turn promotes a stronger community by guaranteeing access to fresh and locally grown produce, such as fruits, vegetables, jams, baked goods, among others.

Farmers markets, like City Market, give patrons another avenue to access fresh and locally grown produce to feed to their families.

During the event, patrons will be given information and their own map of family farm vendors to visit at the City Market.

See how farm equipment has changed by visiting the National Agriculture Center & Hall of Fame and Heritage Tractor on-site displays. For youngsters, a petting zoo will be available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. sponsored by Faulkner’s Ranch. Animals will include goats, sheep, rabbits, a llama, pony and a Brahma steer.

Those who stop by the Information Booth can register to win merchandise and tickets to the Farm Aid Music and Food Festival Saturday, Aug. 13. The Music and Food Festival will be held at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., and will feature Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews.
