A 65-year-old woman was killed Monday afternoon when the car in which she was riding was struck at the intersection of 12th and Hardesty.

Witnesses reported a red Dodge Dakota pick-up truck was traveling east on 12th Street at a high rate of speed and ran the red light, striking a Lincoln Continental that was northbound on Hardesty. The victim, 65-year-old passenger Gertrude Price of Kansas City, Mo., was ejected from the Lincoln on impact and died at the scene. The driver of the car was critically injured and transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. Another passenger in the car was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The red truck continued east on 12th Street, striking another vehicle that was approaching the intersection from the east. After striking the second vehicle, the driver of the truck bailed and began to flee on foot. Witnesses ran after the driver and alerted police in the area to his whereabouts. He was arrested and taken into custody. According to Sgt. Bill Mahoney, police are still investigating whether the truck was stolen and whether the driver was impaired by alcohol or drugs. The victim’s name has not been released.
