Boy Scout Troop 80 Annual Chili Dinner
Check out the Boy Scout Troop 80 Annual Chili Dinner from noon to 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall, 3208 Lexington, Kansas City, Mo. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children and includes the scouts’ award winning chili, salad, dessert and drink. Profits help ensure every boy scout goes to summer camp.

Violent crime meeting open to public
The City of Kansas City is inviting residents to participate in a town hall forum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Robert J. Mohart Center, 3200 Wayne Ave., Kansas City. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss local crime and violence, along with ways to community can become involved in decreasing it. Guest speak Kansas City Mayor Sly James will share his vision to reduce violent crime in the city.

Story Time and Craft
North-East Public Library will host a story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and family members are encouraged to participate with their youngsters.

VFW Pumpkin Decorating Contest
VFW Post 9997, 6801 Wilson Rd., is hosting a pumpkin decorating contest from noon to 4 p.m. The contest will be for ages three to 13. Prizes will be awarded for the top three pumpkins in each age group. Every child will receive a free pumpkin. There will also be hot dogs and drinks, grab bags, other children’s activities and a live band.

Salvation Army Celebrates 30th Anniversary
Come celebrate with the Salvation Army Children’s Shelter, which has been serving the Kansas City kids for 30 years. The free event will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Shelter located at 101 W. Linwood, Kansas City, Mo. Activities will include a tour, birthday cake, face painting, a bounce house, balloon artist and more.

Northeast Community-wide Clean-up
Help make Northeast clean by participating in the Northeast community-wide clean-up Saturday, Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to noon. For yard waste drop-off, visit Budd Park, St. John and Hardesty, or Concourse Park, St. John and Benton. A trailer for used tires will be available at Budd Park. Bulky item pick-up must be scheduled ahead of time by calling Leslie Caplan, (816) 326-8669. Residents are also encouraged to clean-up their own neighborhoods by picking up trash along the streets and alleyways.
