A picture’s worth a thousand words, and this time, it’s also free.

Two area organizations are partnering together to offer low-income families free professional family portraits to display in their homes.

For a third year, Don Bosco Centers and the Professional Photographers Association of Greater Kansas City are hosting the free event to help families capture smiles and memories.

Family pictures are something that are so expensive and I just thought it would be a great idea if we could give them that cherished gift, Don Bosco Family Support Center Director Carla Brewer said. For a lot of our clients, its the first time they’ve ever had a family picture and it just means a lot. Its a treasure.

Members of the Professional Photographers Association of Greater Kansas City will volunteer their time Saturday, Aug. 6, to snap photographs of up to 110 families from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd. H&H Color Lab of Raytown, Mo., will provide the prints free of charge.

Families must register for a picture slot by Aug. 4 by calling the Don Bosco Family Support Center, (816) 691-2952. Families must provide proof of income, ID and a Social Security card.
