For once, a battle is won by those who shed the most blood.
This week fire fighters took the Champions Cup from police for the second year in a row in the Battle for Blood.
“The Battle for Blood this past week was tremendous, and both police and fire fighters in the area were outstanding to say the least. Our centers were busy from open until close each day. While the fire fighters came out on top for the second straight year, we know that the police officers gave it a great effort and will be back in full force for next year’s competition,” said David Graham, vice president of Donor and Hospital Services for Community Blood Center.
The 17th Annual Battle for Blood resulted in 1,189 blood donor votes for fire fighters and 994 for police officers.
This competition drew in nearly 2,200 people to donate blood on June 20-25.
The amount of blood donated will significantly help the Community Blood Center in providing and keeping a good supply of blood to donate to hospital partners in both Kansas and Missouri.
