JUNE 18-24 – Taps at the Tower at sunset, 8:45 p.m. Taps, a musical piece sounded at dusk and at funerals, has a rich and storied history in the United States. People are invited to come and use the grounds each evening, have a picnic, play games and enjoy the outdoors. At sunset, people will gather at the Liberty Memorial Tower to experience Taps being played during a brief, moving ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or other seating. FREE. FRIDAY, June 23 – Pop In at the Park at Budd Park from 3 to 5 p.m. Free books and art activities for kids. This week the fun and learning will focus on rain. Sponsored by the Kansas City Public Library, KC Parks and Recreation and Missouri State Parks.

FRIDAY, June 23 – Arty Barter Party, at the EGG, 2659 Independence Blvd., from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Artists and creatives are invited to bring a piece of art for a “show and tell” as well as art supplies to barter with other artists. Please bring a food/snack item to share as well.

SATURDAY, June 24 – Tai Chi in the Park returns to Independence Plaza Park at Independence Blvd. and Brooklyn, on Saturdays 9-10 a.m. Join Instructor Gary Huff for an hour long session in the north part of the Independence Plaza Park adjacent to the Pendleton Arts Block.

SATURDAY June 24- Public Health & Safety Fair, 10 am to 2 pm, at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy, 1633 E. 17th Terrace. Come for free health screenings, immunizations, smoke detectors, and bicycle giveaways. Sponsored by the Black Health Care Coalition and Senator Barbara Washington.
