Detectives continue to investigate this case on Wednesday morning. They believe the shooting occurred to the south somewhere between Independence Ave. and St. John Ave.
One person is dead following a motorcycle crash early this morning at the Benton roundabout. The victim has been identified as Jeffrey E. Nemitz of Omaha, Neb.
Just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning, emergency crews responded to St. John Avenue and Benton Boulevard on a one vehicle collision.
A burnt orange Harley Davidson was traveling north on Benton Boulevard. The driver, for unknown reasons, went straight at the round about at St. John Avenue. The driver went up onto the curb, lost control of the Harley Davidson, and was ejected from the motorcycle.
The driver was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On Sunday afternoon, police announced they are now investigating this incident as a homicide.
Upon further investigation and with the results of the medical examiner’s body exam, the deceased was determined to have a gunshot wound.
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation and are working today to canvass for any witnesses, and work with crime scene investigators to analyze the evidence originally gathered last night.
