At approximately 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 9, officers responded to the area near the Isle of Capri Casino at 1800 E. Front Street in regard to a hit and run collision in which a westbound Nissan pickup truck struck a white Cadillac Sedan that was turning left in to the casino parking lot. The passenger in the Cadillac was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the Cadillac remained in critical condition. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene on foot.
During the investigation of the accident on Front Street, officers learned that a part of interest at a nearby address. At approximately 3:00 pm, officers responded to an address in the 700 block of N. Kansas Avenue in an attempt to contact the subject. The individual refused to come out of the house and an Operation 100 was initiated and tactical officers were called to the scene. At approximately 7:00 pm the subject exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.
Earlier in the day, at approximately 11:00 am, witnesses reported the subject was involved in a physical altercation with another man over a scrapped garage door. It is unknown at this time whether that dispute led to the events that followed.
