After a whirlwind first week on the job, I now feel qualified to introduce myself as the new managing editor of the Northeast News.

I’ve attended a rocket launch at Whittier Elementary, sat in for a a pair of Kansas City Council committee meetings, erroneously tailed a city street sweeper through the Cliff Drive Scenic Byway, snapped photographs to commemorate KC Fountain Day, taken a stroll through the Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall, visited the lively East Bottoms Bazaar, met what feels like millions of friendly faces, and even managed to remember a few of them (but please don’t test me).

While I’m still a Northeast newbie, I’d like to think I’m making progress towards ingratiating myself to the community. Then again, I’m also an eternal optimist. That being said, I look forward to telling more stories and meeting even newer faces over the coming weeks and months.

I come to the Historic Northeast from South Kansas City, where I spent the previous few years covering news and sports for a publication based out of Grandview, Missouri called the Jackson County Advocate. I covered the Grandview, Hickman Mills, and Center school districts during my time there, in addition to writing numerous human interest features, city government reports, and desperately conciliatory humor columns.

My upcoming schedule is already jam-packed with activities, so there’s a good chance that if I haven’t met you yet, I will soon. I look forward to the opportunity to cover the Northeast community, and I look even more forward to further familiarizing myself with the neighborhood. I’m always looking for food recommendations, upcoming events, and shameless gossip, so if you’re ever in the vicinity, feel free to stop on by the offices of the Northeast News to say hello.
