KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Last week’s suspicious death investigation in the Northeast has now been turned into a homicide investigation.

According to Sgt. Kari Thompson, of the Kansas City Police Department’s media unit, around 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, officers were called to the 500 block of Drury Avenue for an unknown medical call. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Demetri R. Reid, 18, of Kansas City, Mo., dead.

Rosilyn Temple, executive director of KC Mothers in Charge — an organization charged with reducing crime through violence prevention, education and intervention, as well as guide and support the families of victims — said her organization was called to help lend support to the victim’s family.

“I tell them I understand their pain because I’ve lost my son [to violence],” Temple said. “We understand what they’re going through and offer support.”
