Women’s professional soccer is coming to the Northeast this summer, and at no cost to attendees.

The KC Courage of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) will be hosting its home opener at Northeast High School (415 Van Brunt) on Sunday, June 3, beginning at 4 p.m.

Wendy Louque is the executive director for KC Courage. Before that, she was an assistant coach at Johnson County Community College. She has been coaching soccer for 35 years and started with the league in 2014 as the head coach of the KC Shock, which is now known as Courage.

“I am most excited about playing in Northeast,” Loque said. “It makes it more accessible for our players,” Loque said.

The WPSL is a competitive national league made up of 100 teams nationwide. Their season runs from May 1st to August 1st and ends with a league championship tournament every year. The league’s goal is to promote young women soccer players throughout the country.

KC courage is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2014. KC courage also organizes high school alternative teams and has players from the WPSL mentor aspiring female athletes.

The KC Courage season includes four home games and four away games. All games are free admission.
