KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The grassroots group Citizens for Responsible Government has filed a writ of mandamus with the Jackson County Court this morning to put the planned $335 million dollar downtown convention hotel out for a public vote.

The suit references sections 702 and 703 of the city charter that says that such issues should be put to a vote by the electorate. The city has argued that such a vote is unnecessary and that contracts have already been negotiated with hotel developers and potential vendors and that the vote could be illegal. CFRG’s filing attempts to hold the city accountable in accordance with the city charter.
