Before dawn, at 3:30 a.m., on Monday morning, April 14, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers responded to the intersection of Independence and Lawndale Avenues on a reported shooting call.

Once on the scene, an unresponsive, adult male was located on the sidewalk, suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers requested Emergency Medical Services (EMS), who pronounced the victim deceased upon arrival, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Monday. Detectives and investigators have identified the victim as Terry Jones; He was 38 years old.

An initial investigation from KCPD revealed an individual may have driven through the intersection and conducted open fire, which struck the victim.

This incident is currently under homicide investigation. KCPD does not have anyone in custody at this time and has not identified a suspect or vehicle, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Monday.

Investigators and detectives are working to gather any on-scene evidence including statements from witnesses. This case remains ongoing at this time.
