Kansas City Police Department officers responded to the Northeast Athletic Complex, 6200 St. John Ave., at approximately 7:43 a.m. today in regard to a possible explosive device.

Upon arrival, officers located the device and notified the Bomb and Arson Squad.

Bomb and Arson responded to the scene and disabled the pipe bomb.  Another suspicious item was located near the pipe bomb, but  did not contain any explosive materials.

The Bomb and Arson Squad is continuing to search the area for any additional devices before rendering the area safe.
