A 24-year-old Olathe, Kan., man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the deadly vehicular collision earlier today at 18th and Prospect Avenue.

According to court records, Casey Allen Cordell nearly struck a Kansas City Police Department vehicle near Armour Boulevard and Broadway around 2:15 a.m. Jan. 19. Police followed the vehicle after learning it was possibly stolen and witnessed the vehicle run several stop signs and red lights at a high rate of speed.

At 18th and Prospect, the Honda Accord struck a white Ford truck. One passenger, Christopher L. Ford, was pronounced dead at an area hospital while the other passenger in the Honda was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The Honda’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) number revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Overland Park, Kan.

Cordell has been charged with first degree manslaughter and second degree assault.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $250,000/10 percent.
