Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners conducted a nationwide search for the next police chief, but are keeping their eye on three candidates here in Kansas City.

Earlier today, the police commissioners released the names of the five candidates for police chief, which include: KCPD Deputy Chief Darryl Forté, KCPD Deputy Chief Kevin Masters, retired KCPD Deputy Chief Vincent Ortega, Fayetteville, Ark., Chief of Police Thomas Bergamine and Rochester, N.Y., Executive Deputy Chief George E. Markert.

The board will interview the finalists behind closed doors on Sept. 18, Oct. 5 and Oct. 6. A public forum with the finalists is scheduled for Oct. 6. Location and time will be announced at a later date.

Police commissioners are expected to vote on their final pick for chief following the forum.
