It’s election season in the big town and the signs are literally everywhere – including numerous campaign signs planted in the various public rights-of-way. It should be noted that such “plantings” are illegal and frowned upon by the local Ethics folks at the Election Board.

They’re called “yard signs” for a reason, because they belong in yards instead of public rights-of-way. The most prolific violators seem to be the mayoral candidates, followed up by 5th District At Large candidate Charlie Angel, whose signs seem to have sprung up over the weekend throughout the Scarritt and Pendleton Heights areas.

This newshound has caught more than one political operative planting signs on public property and we’ll be on the lookout through this election season for more. Watch our Facebook page for updates.

Congrats to House of News cartoonist extraordinaire Bryan Stalder who just released a new pocket book entitled “The Best (and worst) of Mayor Mark Funkhouser.” The book is filled with published cartoons chronicling the steps (and missteps) of the tallest Mayor in Kansas City history. We’ll be enjoying our copy for a long time to come.
