Balloons, ice cream and tunes — The Museum of Kansas City (3218 Gladstone Blvd.) had all the elements in place for a party to celebrate the one year “birthday” for its Elixir soda fountain.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, The Museum guests were treated to a free scoop of birthday cake-flavored ice cream, crafted by Fairway Creamery. Ice cream was available first-come first served from 12 to 3 p.m. Elixir’s full menu of specialty coffees and drinks was also available to patrons to accompany their free treat.
To add to the party vibe, the lower level of The Museum, where Elixir is located, was decorated with balloon sculptures. Music was provided by DJ Thunder Cutz — spinning a variety of vinyl recordings from his collection of local soul, blues and funk artists.
Deputy Director Paul Gutiérrez said he was pleased with Saturday’s attendance, including that approximately 150 visitors participated in this celebration.
“I am just thrilled the community came out to support Elixir’s One Year Anniversary,” Gutiérrez shared in an interview, Saturday. The staff at Elixir helped plan the celebration.
The Museum of Kansas City is marking several other anniversaries this year. During 2025, the museum will be hosting its 10th annual Derby Party (later in May) and marking its 85th year as a museum dedicated to the history of Kansas City.
