Students at Holy Cross Catholic School in northeast Kansas City got a treat Monday when Shawn Barber, former linebacker with the Kansas City Chiefs, stopped by to give a presentation on being healthy. Barber played with the Chiefs from 2003-05. The presentation was part of the NFL’s Play 60 program, a national youth health and fitness campaign focused on increasing the wellness of young fans by encouraging them to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.
Barber and the Chiefs’ Community Cares Team spoke to the roughly 175 students about eating correctly and exercising regularly. Before playing a few games and demonstrating some exercises with the students, Barber told the crowd when he was their age, his favorite sport to play was basketball and was also a gymnast. He then asked the students what their favorite activities were and received answers such as soccer, tag, and baseball, among other activities.
