KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Following the tragic Oct. 12th fire on Independence Avenue that took the lives of firefighters John Mesh and Larry Leggio, the Kansas City Police Department Friends and Family group launched an effort to help support the families of those fallen heroes.
To that end, a commemorative T-shirt was created that allows people to show their support for Kansas City’s first responders and help out a great cause in the process.
“We wanted to show our support for these families because we know what its like when a spouse leaves for work and your life can change in one horrible second,” Andrea White-Phillips, coordinator of the sales and whose husband is an KCPD East Patrol Sergeant, said. To date, shirt sales have raised over $7,000 which will go directly to the families. “Response has been overwhelming and its really a rewarding experience to help out these families,” she said.
The dark blue, short-sleeve T-shirt is an original design by Jennifer Romi Wolz and is available by contacting White-Phillips at andrea.phillips1223@gmail.com. Shirts are $20 and will be available until supplies run out. The group’s page can be found on Facebook by searching: KCPD Friends & Family – Community.
