Two people are dead following related shootings Sunday night.
About 9:30 p.m. Kansas City, Mo. Police Department (KCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of Ninth and Prospect on a shooting call associated with a vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, they located a female inside a vehicle that had been crashed. She had also been shot. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
At the same time, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2600 block of East Ninth Street on another shooting call. At that location, officers located a male who had been shot and was deceased.
Preliminary investigation and initial evidence indicate the deceased male’s shooting was self-inflicted. Further initial investigation indicates that it appears the female shooting victim was initially shot near the residence on Ninth Street where the male was found deceased, and she drove to the location where the vehicle crashed.
Later in the night, after completion of processing at the scene, detectives were notified the female died at the hospital from her injuries.
The exact sequence of events at the residence is still under investigation this morning as detectives work through witness statements and all evidence collected by crime scene investigators.
