It’s time for spring cleaning – and we’re not talking about your house. Historic Northeast neighborhoods have collaborated to host a community-wide clean-up Saturday, April 28, to beautify Northeast.
“My biggest goal is getting litter picked up off the streets and sidewalks and getting as much trash picked up as possible,” said Katie Greer, Indian Mound president and one of the clean-up’s organizers.
Dumpsters will be available at a number of locations including:
•Pendleton Heights – 508 Garfield Ave.
•Independence Plaza – Harmony Park, 10th & Bellefontaine Avenue
•Scarritt Renaissance – The Concourse, Benton Boulevard & St. John Avenue
•Sheffield – 1120 Oakley Ave.
•Indian Mound – Budd Park, Brighton & St. John Ave.
Dumpsters designated for brush and limbs will include one at Budd Park and another at The Concourse.
In addition, a tire trailer will be on-site at Budd Park for residents to drop off unwanted tires. Volunteers wanting to clean the streets and neighborhoods of Northeast may pick up the city’s blue trash bags for free at any of the dumpster locations. Once filled, the blue trash bags may be placed on the curb and the city will pick them up free of charge.
A number volunteer groups from outside of Northeast will also be assisting in the clean-up and will include Boys Hope Girls Hope, Ericsson, the YDC Youth Volunteer Force, among other groups.
The clean-up will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. Greer stressed dumpsters will no longer be available after noon.
“We want our neighborhood to look as nice as possible,” Greer said. “We want to send the message that we do care and that we want things to look nice.”
