This Saturday, the Kansas City Police Department, Ryogoku Soccer Academy, 816 SFC Soccer Nation and Cafe Ollama will be hosting a Soccer Festival at Prospect Plaza Park at 12th and Prospect from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This will be the first of many soccer festivals to come, according to Brad Leonard, one of the coordinators and founder of Ryogoku Soccer Academy.

“I’m encouraging people to bring their friends and family members even if you don’t have a team,” Leonard said. “We’re going to be playing futsal, all the teams are small and we can plug people in very easily.”

The event will be geared toward young soccer players from the community.

“We’re trying to figure out a way to get the youth involved, we need to really showcase their talents, and we need to do it in an engaging way,” Leonard said.

The event is of no cost and there will be free food donated by the community. For more information about the event, email Ryogokusocceracademy@gmail.com
