KANSAS CITY, Missouri – After a six and a half month hiatus from business, Snyder’s Supermarket (2620 Independence Ave.) re-opened their doors today to a crowd of waiting shoppers happy to be back in their neighborhood grocery market. As customers streamed into the store, vendors finished stocking shelves and new coolers. Store owner Jerry James made sure all the technical glitches were handled in stride.
“We’re bound to have a few hitches in our get-along,” said James as he strode through the aisles in his jeans and customary Stetson. “We’re just tickled pink to be back open – it’s been a long haul.”
James credited three of his children for the heavy lifting in getting the store re-opened.
“Jenelle, Jason and Jamie have really been the ones to make this happen,” he said before he dashed down an aisle to assist a customer.
The store’s re-opening was held up over two hours by the city’s Health Department when they failed to keep an early appointment. Calls to the Health Department regarding the miscommunication were automatically directed to an auto attendant with no room for voicemail.
Snyder’s will be open seven days a week and has more new surprises in store as operations get fully ramped up. New carts and more cooler doors dedicated to specialized grocery items are on the way.
