On Monday, Jan. 6, Northeasters were busy digging out up to 12 inches of snow. Samuel Smith and Johnny Phillips were bundled for the weather and shoveling along St. John Avenue. Smith, a Healing House KC employee, said that he and Phlilips — a Healing House program resident — began shoveling at 5 a.m., Monday.

On the same stretch of St. John Avenue, Northeast resident Zer Hoe was busy digging out his driveway. The amount of snow caused his shovel handle to break in half, but with no backup, he continued with a shorter handle. Hoe stated he was originally a resident of the Northernmost Southeast Asia country, Burma (Myanmar) before moving to Kansas City.

Kansas City Public Works crews plowed streets, but the amount of snow still made it difficult for drivers to navigate around piles of snow at intersections, such as Kensington and St. John Avenues.

With drifting of the snow, accumulation from this storm varied. Inky the Newscat reported a reading of nine inches in her backyard on Monday, Jan. 6.
