A small structure fire started at the southwest corner of Topping and St. John on the evening of Monday, May 9, but a quick response from the Northeast’s KCFD Fire Station #23 (located at Independence Ave. and Van Brunt) kept the blaze from spreading.
There was no one in the structure at the time of the incident, and Station #23 Battalion Chief Brian England indicated that no determination has yet been made on the cause of the fire.
“We’re thinking it’s accidental,” said England. “It’s still under investigation.”
He said that the fire likely wasn’t going long before the fire department arrived on the scene.
“It wasn’t going as well as we’re used to them going,” he said. “It was confined to one small area, but it was about ready to extend.”
England indicated that a report could take a few days to finalize.
