KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Police Department are investigating a shooting as a homicide near the intersection of Oakley and Thompson Avenues.
According to residents who live on the 400 block of Oakley Avenue, police were called to the area at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victim is believed to be a 20-year-old woman. No other details, such as potential suspect or if she lived in the area, have yet to be provided. Police found the body of the victim outside of a vehicle when they arrived on scene.
The couple wished to remain nameless when speaking about the incident. The man said he and his son were walking around the neighborhood earlier to get lunch and groceries.
“I kept thinking that could’ve been us,” the man said.
The man added he wasn’t surprised about the shooting. He and his family moved into their home last October and he said within a week of moving in, a dead man was found in their alley. The residents said they keep to themselves and have a high fence with an alarm system for their home.
“We’re not too worried because this sort of thing typically happens to people who put themselves in these situations,” the woman said.
