As Kansas City braces for dangerously hot temperatures, The Salvation Army is offering relief from the heat.
All eight Salvation Army community centers across the Kansas City metro area have been officially activated as community Cooling Shelters Thursday and Friday, while the city is under an “excessive heat warning.” The shelters will be open from 8 a.m. to at least 5 p.m. until the heat warning is canceled. Cold drinks and light snacks will be provided to anyone seeking respite from the hot weather. Salvation Army community center locations are:

In addition, Salvation Army emergency disaster volunteers will distribute cold drinks to the homeless and people working outside in the heat. The mobile teams will canvass the city Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the afternoon hours. The Salvation Army has also mobilized a volunteer network to make phone calls to elderly individuals to check on their welfare.
