Soon, houses in the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood will be transformed into masterpieces of Halloween art.

Approximately 20 houses are expected to participate in the neighborhood association’s Scare-It Halloween, which will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

Last year, 7,500 children trick-or-treated in the neighborhood.

Scare-It Halloween activities are free of charge and streets will be blocked off from Gladstone and St. John Ave. to Gladstone and Mersington.

Now in its 18th year, Scare-It Halloween began as a way to provide a safe venue for children in the urban core to trick-or-treat.

In addition to trick-or-treating, a number of activities will be available, including four inflatables, a haunted train for youngsters, Kansas City Chalk and Walk artists creating Halloween-themed art and Parisole Arts will feature fire spinning and face painting throughout the evening.

Also, be on the look out for a Ghostbuster and his Ghostbuster Ecto 1, along with roving zombies with the Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger.

Youngsters dressed as fairy princesses can enter the Kansas City Museum’s Fairy Princess Costume Contest, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd. Infants up to 14 years of age can participate and prizes will awarded for the top three costumes during the Holiday Open House on Dec. 2.
