The old Vista Theater and Villa Capri Restaurant debris continues to blight the 2600 block of Independence, despite the fact the conflagration that destroyed the venerable structure occurred almost a month ago.

We had more than a few calls here at the House of News inquiring when the rock pile was going to be abated.

We called Nate Pare’ at the city’s Dangerous Buildings Department who indicated the owner is working through issues in respect to the demolition permit as well as some compliance issues with the city’s Health Department.

The Health Department reference certainly gives us pause and points to the possibility of some asbestos abatement that may need to occur on the site.

In short – don’t look for the hulking pile of rubble to go anywhere any time soon, especially given the glacial pace city hall works at.

If you haven’t checked out the area’s newest Vietnamese noodle joint at Independence and The Paseo, you best beat feet and get there lickety-split.

This newshound had a chance to sample some of the fare over the weekend and came away from the experience a few pounds heavier and very satisfied from a flavor standpoint.

If you shed a tear when the old Thai Place closed down over at Admiral and Grand, cry no more.

Spike and the gang at the new Pho Hoa have got it goin’ on!
