Want to suggest a project for next year’s capital improvement budget for the city of Kansas City, Mo.?

The Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC) is inviting residents to voice their ideas at four citywide hearings in August. PIAC consists of 13 members – two residents from each council district and a chairperson – who are appointed by the mayor and City Council. PIAC funds typically are used for flood control, storm drainage, street resurfacing, bridge repairs, traffic signals, tree trimming and planting, and improvements to parks and trails.

The upcoming citywide hearings follow a series of neighborhood-level meetings held earlier in the summer. PIAC will use public input from all the meetings to make recommendations to the City Council regarding both the citywide and neighborhood portions of the Fiscal Year 2014-15 capital budget. Project funding comes from the one-cent sales tax for public improvements.

Friday, Aug. 16, 9 a.m. to noon

Tuesday, Aug. 20, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The Gem Theater

Wednesday, Aug. 21, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Hillcrest Community Center

Thursday, Aug. 22, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Northland Cathedral
101 N.W. 99th St.

Residents also may suggest a project by filling out a form. Visit www.kcmo.org/piac for an online form or call 816-513-2826 for a paper form. The deadline to submit a suggestion is Aug. 31, 2013.
