Thank you Historic Northeast for drinkin’ it up and recycling your glass bottles in the big purple Ripple Glass bin in the parking lot here at The House of News!

During calendar year 2011, our bin recycled over 25.4 tons of glass that was made into insulation at the Owens Corning Fiberglass facility in Kansas City, Kan.!

The bin here at the Northeast News was quite a ways down the list that was comprised of some 97 bins scattered throughout the metro area.

(The folks over in Corinth Square really knock ’em back given the 438 tons they recycled in 2011. Keeping up appearances ya know) We finished right ahead of, get this, the bin at the Harley-Davidson Final Assembly Plant up north whose drinkers came in with 24.1 tons through the course of the year. Yup – we out drank the bikers. Huzzah!

We also out drank the Army! Fort Leavenworth’s bin came in with a paltry 21 tons over the year.

What happened to all those spent bottles that would have stretched over 11,000 miles if stretched end to end you ask?

Thanks to a donation from Ripple, some 200 metro homes were insulated last fall by Christmas in October using insulation made with recycled materials from Ripple Glass bins!  So keep up the great work and keep those beer trucks comin’!
