Welcome to the November 23, 2022, edition of Kansas City’s Northeast News. This issue is somewhat of a milestone for us here at the House of News and we’re proud to make it happen, given it’s been almost a decade since we printed a 24-page paper. That, in and of itself, is worthy of noting.
First off, we’d like to spotlight our new sponsored content community partner, Revolución Educativa, a Northeast-based, community empowerment 501c4 that seeks to effect positive change and improve education outcomes by giving communities the tools, resources and support needed to build sustained collective power in Kansas City and beyond. RevEd is the proud sponsor of the super cool, four-page wrap that encases this week’s edition, and we’d like to welcome Edgar Palacios and his team as a community partner and major sponsor of The Northeast News.
Secondarily, and certainly not least, this 24-page edition should also serve as an example of the unlimited potential nonprofit community journalism has in the Historic Northeast community. We migrated to a nonprofit business model in May of this year for this exact reason, to expand our news gathering and reporting capabilities in order to make our community a better place to live and work. Through the addition of news reporters who focus on important topics such as education, community health and local government, the Northeast News serves as an example to under-served “news desert” communities throughout Kansas City that communities with a locally focused newsroom are stronger than those without.
That’s why one of our primary goals is to replicate this news model in other Kansas City neighborhoods, giving voice to its residents, making their communities stronger and more united.
We hope you enjoy our expanded Northeast News this week. Please let us know how we can make our product better. We welcome your comments and constructive feedback at northeastnews@socket.net, give us a call at (816) 241-0765 or stop by during business hours.
