KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A Kansas City man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a pair of female police officers and a civilian woman near the intersection of 11th and Prospect last week.
On Monday, August 15, 54-year-old Kansas City man John K. Ross was charged with two counts of Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer in the 2nd Degree and one count of Assault in the 3rd Degree. According to a press release issued by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, the police officers responded to the scene when they saw a woman being head-butted by Ross in the vicinity of 11th and Prospect. When the officers intervened, Ross began fighting with them as well. Ross allegedly hit both officers, with one of them suffering a concussion as a result.
According to the Probable Cause statement, an officer first approached Ross as he assaulted the female civilian on the street. Ross allegedly punched the first responding officer several times, and also bit and punched the second officer with a closed fist as she approached the scuffle. A witness corroborated the story, telling authorities that Ross began attacking the first officer as she exited the police vehicle. Both officers were treated at an area hospital for injuries sustained during the fight.
As the first officer attempted to separate Ross from the female victim, the victim lunged forward in a possible attempt to strike Ross. Instead, in what the victim termed an accident, she hit one of the officers and knocked her into a metal post box. The female victim later told authorities that Ross was a stranger who had accused her of having his “stuff.”
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $35,000 in the case.
