KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Northeast Kansas City Historical Society can add another award to its mantle.

At its Dec. 1st meeting, the Independence Pioneers Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, presented their prestigious Historic Preservation Recognition Award to the Northeast Kansas City Historical Society (NEKCHS).

Kent T. Dicus, president of the the NEKCHS, accepted the award from Chapter Regent Linda Collins Dimon. The NEKCHS is a grass roots organization with the objective identifying historic homes, buildings and other structures; collecting and exhibiting significant historical materials relating to the Northeast Kansas City community; and encouraging research, documentation and interpretation of such history. The society has hosted four annual fall homes tours which this year included the Kansas City Museum, originally the 1908 home of lumber baron Robert A. Long. In December 2014, the society published its first hardbound-over sized collectible book, “Kansas City’s Historic Northeast Neighborhoods,” showcasing over 150 homes, buildings and churches.

Dicus’ great-grandmother, Jennie D. Andrews, was the Organizing Regent of the Jemima Alexander Sharpe DAR Chapter in Boonville, Mo., in 1906, now named the Hannah Cole Chapter. NEKCHS treasurer Michael Ohlson and historian Joy Brandon also attended the event, and  were congratulated by Missouri State Vice Regent Susan Bowman, a chapter member.
