Appetizers in Asia. Salad in Europe. Dinner in Africa. Dessert in South America. The Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s (NEKCCOC) eighth International Taste and Tour event will be back on Saturday, September 14. This year’s event will be a progressive dinner, where guests will ride a shuttle bus to five different restaurants in Northeast for a more immersive cultural experience.
In the past, the International Taste and Tour has been held at the Don Bosco Senior Center. This year however, event organizers wanted to do something different. “Instead of bringing the food from our restaurants to a central location, we thought it would be an excellent opportunity to get people to the restaurants so that they could really experience the culture of our International Marketplace,” said Bobbi Baker-Hughes, Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce President. “Walking into Elvira’s is way different than having a slice of cake in an off-site location,”
The event will start at the American Sons Of Columbus, located at 2415 Independence Boulevard, which will host an International Marketplace Bazaar, live entertainment with traditional songs and dancing from international locales.
“When we travel,” Baker-Hughes explains, “We don’t read online reviews to find the ‘best dining experiences,’; we prefer to explore new places, discover great restaurants, and determine our own experiences, rather than attempt to recreate someone else’s.”
She hopes others will enjoy the surprises that they will experience on the International Taste and Tour.
Proceeds from the annual event will support local businesses through the Chamber of Commerce’s EGG Business Incubator.
