KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Museum has found its new director.

Anna Marie Tutera has been named the new executive director of the Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall.

On May 1, the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department assumes management responsibilities of the museum at Corinthian Hall. Parks director Mark McHenry said finding a new executive director was one of the first things he wanted to accomplish for the museum. McHenry said he went through the interview process and believe they found the best candidate. Current interim executive director Denise Morrison will continue to work for the museum, but in another capacity.

“She grew up in the Northeast area,” McHenry said. “Add that with her vast experience on the job and through educational experiences and we believe we have the best person for the job.”

Tutera has previously served as executive director of the Wornall/Majors House Museum since 2012, notably leading a $350,000 project to reconstruct the foundation and facade of the 1858 John Wornall House. She has lived and worked in Chicago, San Francisco and Santa Fe, N.M. In addition to the Wornall/Majors House Museums, she’s worked at the Santa Fe Children’s Museum, Habitot Children’s Museum, the San Francisco Foundation, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Chicago Children’s Museum. Tutera received a masters of arts degree in museum studies from John F. Kennedy University and a bachelor of arts in English literature from Northwestern University.
