Northeast News
October 9, 2013
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we here at the House of News are all in for the “fight like a girl” struggle.
It’s personal here, since after the summer of 2012 our publisher’s wife Christine was diagnosed with Stage I Triple Negative Breast Cancer. After a nine-month ordeal involving surgeries, chemo and radiation, she’s cancer-free. Others are not so lucky, however, often battling breast cancer for years. That’s why this month we’re stepping up our game, for everyone out there who’s had to fight like a girl, literally, for their very lives.
For every classified ad we sell in the month of October, the Northeast News will donate $1.00 to the University of Kansas Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Prevention Center. KU’s Cancer Center was designated in 2012 as a National Cancer Institute, recognized for their excellence in scientific research and patient care during cancer treatments.
We received excellent care last summer at the KU Cancer Center because it’s really all about the team approach to cancer treatment as well as follow up care after a patient’s active treatment of chemo and radiation have been completed. Anyone who’s been diagnosed with any kind of cancer knows that you’re never really “through” with cancer. It’s always there, mentally, lurking over your shoulder. So, we’re doing something about it. Our whole newspaper is going pink for the cause.
So this month, buy a classified ad for the cause, even if it’s to say “Happy Birthday” to a loved one or pay tribute to someone who’s fought the good fight against breast cancer. We’ll pony up a buck for the boobs in the process. If you’d like more information on the University of Kansas Cancer Center, visit their website at www.kucancercenter.org.
