KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Northeast Middle School student is safe after reportedly being robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning.

According to Ray Weikal, Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator for the Kansas City Public Schools, a NEMS student was robbed at gunpoint roughly two blocks from school. The robber took the student’s shoes and backpack. The KCPD is still on site and the KCPS is working with them.

Weikal noted that the KCPS will provide extra security throughout the end of the week in order to increase safety for students.

“Our top priority it to provide any support the student needs,” Weikal said, adding the KCPS will assist the student and the family with whatever help they need at this time.
