Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce celebrated two business leaders during its Oct. 23 chamber luncheon meeting held at Capital Cafe, 1447 E. Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo.

Jay Aden, owner of the Capital Cafe, has been open for about three months, serving up delectable Somali food, like sambusa, Soor with chicken legs, lamb seasoned with cumin, cardamom and other spices, among other dishes.

To honor Aden, the Chamber hosted an official ribbon cutting following the luncheon. Chamber members, City Council members and 1st District Jackson County Legislator Scott Burnett attended the ribbon cutting.

In addition, the Chamber also honored Sam Davis, owner of Shelter Insurance which offers home, auto, life and rental insurance. Davis has served on the Northeast Chamber as well as being involved with the Holy Cross Catholic School and the Blue Valley Kiwanis Club.

Northeast Chamber honored Davis following the luncheon with a Certificate of Appreciation for his “valuable investment of time, knowledge, energy and resources to promote the growth, development and betterment of Northeast Kansas City.”

 

 

Upcoming Northeast Chamber of Commerce Events:

• Chamber Luncheon: Tuesday, Nov. 27, at noon. Tentative speakers include representatives from the Justine PETERSEN micro-loan program.

• After-hours Event: Thursday, Nov. 29, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mesob Pikliz restaurant, which serves Ethiopian and Haitian cuisine. Mesob Pikliz is celebrating one year in business and just secured a liquor license. Come for socializing and a spread of appetizers, beer and wine. All are invited to attend. Cost is free.
